2010 - First Blog

In this class we will read and contribute to this blog as a course requirement. In order for the blog to be useful and meaningful it is important that each of you contribute thoughtful comments that not only address the topic at hand, but also create a conversational and interactive community for our class.

Today I would like for you to tell me and each other what your experience with "blogging" is. Do you read any blogs regularly? Have you ever contributed to another blog before? Do you have your own blog? Do you think blogs could add significant value to other school curriculum (explain your answer)? Feel free to include other related information and/or opinions you have about blogs.

I think blogs are stupid becuase instead of having a conversation about something in person they do it on the computer. People get used to having conversations on the computer and then when they get out in the world they don't know how to have conversations with people face to face. I've never done it becuase I would rather talk to someone in person instead of waste my time on the computer talking about something.

On a regular basis I do not read or respond to any blog, however I have had to respond to blogs rarely for my Economics class about current events. Also, in U.S. history we have something that resembles a blog that we all have to respond to after a lesson. I do not have my own blog either but I feel that they could be useful for all of the students to understand a different view point of their classmates. Teachers also get to see the opinions of students who maybe don’t say as much in class which can justify their paying attention to the curriculum they’re learning. Instead of class discussions blogs can give people more time to take in what others are saying so their response does not have to be immediate, especially if they don’t understand the question the blog is asking them to respond to.

I have had limited experience with blogs during my time spent on the internet. Blogs are something that I seem to hear a lot about in popular culture and they seem to be a common scapegoat for cheap shots at the internet. Though I suppose that blogs are a good medium for people around the world to converse about common interests, they seem like an alternative social networking utility such as Facebook.
Before this class, I was recently exposed for the first time to blogging by Mr. Bromley in my Environmental Science class. We used this same blogging website to converse class wide about some of the controversy surrounding greenhouse emissions and the global carbon crisis. While blogs were undoubtedly a good tool in getting a feel for the varied opinions in our class I feel like we would have been better off conversing vocally, or just researching on our own. It seems to easy to listen to someone who is an eloquent writer on a blog site even when they are factually wrong.

I have never used, or contributed to blogs on my own free time, but I have used them plenty of times for classes throughout my years at school, I have created blogs as well as contributed to blogs. I think that blogs can be a good way to start discussions about whatever topic is being discussed, during my experience with blogs I feel that they are a helpful way to submit or gain information, yourself or others might not know. I think that blogging is a great way to keep in touch with your peers out of school if necessary, and are definitely a positive value to other school curriculum, because I think that everyone can value form it in a positive way. I think that blogs are great if they are used in a controlled manner, because I know that some blogs can get out of control, for example in one of my classes we had to contribute to a blog, that ended up turning into a full on debate, and the blog was deleted, so blogs are nevertheless a great way to grasp or release information but I feel as though they should be censored. Another way to make a blog successful is if the blog is continued in a manner that brings in many points giving the people who are using the blog things to discuss. In a blog I also feel there should be a starting topic that leads the people into discussion. For one of my classes we had to submit to a blog on President Obama’s State of the Union Address, and the blog was somewhat successful but in the end I feel that the blog started to deteriorate, due to the lack of knowledge, people had, therefore I think that the people contributing to the blog should have some general knowledge as to what the topic is. But over all I feel blogs can be very helpful and successful if used and managed right.

The only times that I have ever blogged were in my issues in literature and cit-ed class this past semester, and it seemed to work out fairly well. I felt as though blogging really wasn’t necessary in those classes though because we could have just as easily talked about it as a class. Other than that, the only other experience with blogging is an occasional read of a friend’s blog. I think that blogging can be a good thing to use sometimes, and other times it’s not really necessary if you can just as easily use your voice. For the most part though, in this class I think that the blog is a great idea for all of us to share opinions together, especially since there will be three classes’ opinions that we will be able to hear from.

I have used blogs before in other classes but I am sure that there is still a lot to learn about them. I think that they are very productive and helpful about disusing a subject. They are a good way to express yourself. They should be used more often because they are effective.

I don’t have any experiences with blogging. I haven’t really seen a need to blog before. But I can see how it can be useful in school. It opens up a door for conversation and idea sharing through different classes which is a good thing. And I think that it will be useful for school but outside of school I don’t see my self as a blogger.

I do not read any blogs daily. The only time I read blogs is trying to find something out on homework or projects. Whenever I am reading the blogs for homework or projects, I never contribute to them. I do not have my own blog and I don’t think I ever will plan to make a blog because I could just talk to people on facebook etc. about what I am trying to write about. I think schools could benefit for doing a blog because it opens up more conversation I think. It’s also better than writing a report. But in general I do not see myself as a blogger

I have never used blogs before, or read them either. I haven’t read blogs before because I didn’t really know what they were used for. I have heard about what they were and like Mike said I have to agree that they are stupid. But, although I thought they would be stupid because you could just talk to the person face to face, today I heard that they can be used for having conversations with many different people and from people all over the world. So in hearing that, it changed the way I look at blogs.

I have had to use blogs for school related tasks a lot lately. It seems that teachers have no idea that we as students are aware that blogs exist and know how to use them. My first experience with a blog was with Wetpaint in biology, and to be honest Wetpaint, Blogger etc are awful tools. They are complex, filled with adds, and with wetpaint can accidently delete themselves if 2 users try to edit the same thing at the same time.
The only system i have ever been content with is wordpress, which i have used for the 2 in total sites i have had to set up blogs with.
That said, when a blog is well put together and easy to use it can be an extremely valueable tool.

The only time that I have ever used a blog was during my freshmen year English class. My teacher set up a blog to respond to certain quotes in a book we were reading at the time. We only used it for a few weeks because the website was frustrating and the class decided we didn’t want to use it anymore. Since then I haven’t read or contributed to any blogs. I really don’t think they’re beneficial to school curriculum. You could just be writing it down in your notebook or sharing your ideas in class. Computers tend to lose information and they’re a perfect excuse for not doing your work since you could say your internet failed or the page wouldn’t load, etc. I think schools should stick with the old fashion and just write it down. That’s a personally opinion because I just don’t like computers very much.

Alex M E Period said...

I personally think blogs are useless because I am clearly much too cool for that kind of stuff. I have nothing against blogs or people who use them, but I would just never use them myself. They're a good way for people to argue or debate random topics on the internet but that's not the kind of thing I like to do to pass time. It seems like a good way to get one's opinion across on a certain subject, especially if the person isn't comfortable talking about the topic in person with their friends.
I made a blog for my expository writing class sophmore year about music and it was really boring and I personally don't think I got much out of it.

JohnC period E said...

I have very little experience with blogging. I have occasionally read a blog but only because I was either really bored or trying to do research for a school assignment. I have never contributed to another blog, because I’ve never had a need to. I think blogs have the potential to be a great way of communicating, especially if mulitple schools used the same blogs, so students could talk about things even if they’ve never met. The only problem I have with blogs is that if it gets popular enough I feel like a bunch of people start to make it bad by posting really innapropriate things. People seem to have a lot more courage when it comes to saying things to someone on the computer instead of face to face.

My experiences with blogs are rather limited. I've never written a blog, but a few times I have read them. Mostly for school stuff; occasionally free will. I like the concept of blogging – sharing your opinions and thoughts and ideas with an audience – but I think one of the flaws with blogging now is that it is almost too available. It seems kind of lame to blog about nothing, and I don’t know why I would want to read about someone else’s nothing when I have other stuff to worry about. That said, I think the idea of a blog is great – you can express things that the people directly near you that you interact with everyday might not find appealing, or you might be looking for a larger audience to discuss your ideas with. And if you want to write about nothing then you can, too, I guess.

in response to MikeB i agree that blogs can be stupid if people are using them as one of their only ways of socializing, which might cause them to not know how to talk to someone face to face. But if people are using blogs to communicate with people that are halway around the world that they wouldn't be able to talk to face to face then for that purpose i think blogs are really useful.

Becca S. Period E said...

I have never experienced “blogging”. I just have never felt the need to. I think as technology moves forward there are more and more easy-way-outs to talking to people in person. When I think of blogs I think of people that have nothing better to do then to sit on a computer and answer questions all day. I also think that a lot of the time people wouldn’t say half of the stuff they say online if they were in person with someone. It does give people a reason to say there opinion, but some people take advantage of that and trash certain topics. I think it’s good if that’s what they want to do in their free time but there is always going to be someone that ruins it. It can be cool if you are talking to someone from somewhere else in the world, but that is also a bad thing because it is the internet and a lot of the blogs anyone can respond so it can be very unsafe. I think that having blogs in different classes is pointless because the teachers can just as easily talk about it in class. It also gives teacher an excuse for having discussions outside of class, and I think that is unnecessary.

Like many of the previouse posts I also do not have extenuous work with blogs. Also like the previouse comments, I have used blogs in classes like Cit ed, and I do find them very usefull for certain discussions. When Blogs have specific topics they can bridge together facts from all over the world to give a person a different opinion or the facts could simply back up their thoughts. The bottom line is that blogs are very usefull to connect people internationally with a same common interests, where they don’t have the option to talk face to face. Like Matt F. said “I am sure there is still a lot to learn about them.” I think that this is a very good point because as we make our way into society and we can’t just ask a teacher or some other sources I believe that sources like blogs and online encyclopedia’s will become very necessary to answer various questions in our lives. Also as we gain more experience with these sources we will also become more comfortable with them and the benefits that they can provide. Overall I think that blogs are very usefull, and that we just need to find the write time to use them and how to look for what we need.

Never have I used a blog, be it contributing information or gathering it. Personally, I rather use reputable, reliable resources when gleaning info. Many teachers as well as kids disregard things seen on Wikipedia, and what is Wiki but a sophisticated blog? Blogs are quite handy when one is looking to share an idea/thought. They can be undeniably useful, allowing people from all over the world to connect. They enable perspectives to be seen that would normally remain unknown to the different parties.

I haven’t had any experience with blogging before. The only time I’ve read a blog is when I type in a question in Google, and blogs with people who have answered the question and posted websites to find more information on it come up. I guess blogs could benefit school curriculum for the reason I said above; if someone had done a project or extensive research on a certain topic, they could post their findings on a blog for other people to benefit from. Overall, blogs are a good way to start discussions and read about others opinions. Personally, I prefer conversations in person verse conversations online or through blogs but blogs allow you to communicate with anyone who has access to the internet and therefore you would find a larger variety of opinions and points of view .

I personally have never written on a blog in the past although I do believe can be a good way to express opinions as well as specific information. Blogs seem like a truly successful way to exchanges information and opinions, but I find it appalling reading blog posts in which a person types pages whining about their life experiences. Blogs that encourage the discussion of any sort of value leave a perfect opportunity for on lookers as well as posters to maintain an engaging conversation. However the other blogs that convey annoying broken heart love stories are stupid, annoying and have no use being shown to the eyes of every person who can get their hands on a computer.

I don’t read blogs and I have never contributed to another blog before. I think that blogs could be a good way to start a conversation about a certain topic. The only time I have used a blog is while in Peru on a group trip. They had us prepare small sentances for our parents to read. I have never read other blogs before and I don’t think that I would choose to. I feel that there is no real reason to have a blog but I guess nowadays its having conversations via online is the way to go. I have been part of classes that blogged and for some kids, it can help them make a point via online better than they would in person. But for me I would rather stick to having group discusions in person.

I personally haven’t used a blog before, although I do believe they can be helpful tools for communication on the web. For instance if someone wants opinions on a certain topic for a poll or just wanting to know what people think about the subject, it would be a very helpful tool for such things. Blogs are used everywhere for anything, which is great because a blog isn’t a limiting piece of technology, they change every day and can be used completely different, depending on the person who’s using them. I don’t contribute to blogs or have one. It’s great that schools use blogs as a way of distributing information like a homework assignment or questions about homework or certain classes.

I have never written or read a blog outside of school. The one time I read and commented on a blog was for ms. Healy’s class. I think that blogs are a good way to discuss ideas, and post opinions where other people can easily input. I don’t use blog sites, however, because I don’t really use the internet for that. If I want to get good information on something, I’ll usually just research it on my own and develop my own opinion. While I think that blogs are a good idea, they’re just not for me.

BlakeC. period F said...

I have never actually had to read or respond to a blog, I have never looked at them either. I never really understood what they were until just recently and I don’t find a point in them for people who know each other. Blogs could be a fun thing if you are talking to other people that you don’t know and you could learn a lot about those people’s opinions. But I find no point in them is you are talking with your friends on them. If you post a blog and your friends respond to it it’s just a waste of time because you can talk about those ideas or whatever with them anywhere else and any other time. It is good for classes also because you don’t learn the same thing as the class before you and people have their own opinions on everything and like I said earlier you can learn from them and get a better understanding about that idea.

I have never done anything in class with blogs before. I’ve only used blogs a couple of times in my lifetime. My step-sister is traveling right now with a program called “Semester At Sea”, and I have used blogging as a form of communication with her. I like the way blogging lets us connect with people all around. I would not use blogging as a permanent communication aspect though. I think that talking to someone in person or on the phone is better than blogging. I think that blogs are cool though and can be really useful; they are definitely not stupid or pointless. People can use blogs to discuss their feelings or opinions if they feel the need to share. Even though I have never really used a blog, I am excited to use one in this class.

I read blogs often for pictures, literature, quotes, and such. I also contribute to one quite often. I think that they're a good way to communicate with a certain group of people, such as a class, or to anyone in the world. You can post not only writing but pictures, videos, music and other things, I find them interesting. I think a teacher or the school having a blog is beneficial to a class because students can respond to a post and comment on an assignment, read other students responses and what not. Blogs can be helpful if used correctly.

I have had little experience with blogs at the time I am using the internet. I do think it’s pretty fascinating to be able to chat with people on a topic that you and others feel strongly about. I have never actually blogged before, but the little experience I stated with social networks other than face book, MySpace etc... Was in Forums because forums are like blogs but you can do so much more with forums like start topics, lock topics (or make them private) be a administrator of a certain area of the site so that you can filter what comes in and what can be said. But in blogging you are restricted to only responding to posts and creating posts. As I had previously stated I had little experience with blogging/forums so I’m not entirely sure if blogging has come a long way as to what you are capable of doing.

Blogs in my eyes are a waste of your time, especially the random ones on the internet, for all you know, you could be arguing with a ten year old that just wants to stir something up. I mean, instead of sitting on the computer you could probably be doing something more useful with your time. But that’s just me. Maybe like three present of actual blogs are people who are doing it to argue a valid point that they believe. But the ones I’ve seen are just random people putting each other down for no apparent reason. They might be good for hearing some ones Opinion that you normally wouldn’t hear from, but I’m going to have to agree with Mike B, I think they are pretty lame, when in all reality you could just sit down and have a face to face decision about the topic you are debating.

I personally have never blogged but I've always liked the idea of being able to share my ideas with the world without necessarily having to "own up" to them. Although I think that in some ways blogging about your ideas and thoughts is somewhat cowardly because the world does not generally know who you are and you can hide behind your words, it's also a freeing experience where you can post what's on your mind without having to worry about the aftermath. I also think that it's nice to be able to post exactly what you're thinking onto the internet without anyone being able to interrupt you as you type. I read blogs occasionally if I happen to come across them but I don't have a certain one that I follow. I also think that blogging is a really good way to show people who you really are and what you really think about without having to actually have a conversation with them. I think that it's a lot harder to let other people see who you are if you do not necessarily know them well. The downside of blogging is that usually it really is for the whole world to see, and in most circumstances that's okay but sometimes that could be a problem. Overall, I'm in favor of blogging because I think it's a great way to open yourself up to the world.

Anna G period F said...

I have never blogged before nor have I read one. I have skimmed a couple when looking for information but I do not find them useful for informational purposes. They are, however good for online discussions and do see others reactions to certain issues allowing you to form your own opinion. They allow people to get feedback from others and discuss issues important to themselves and others alike. They are also a good way to express individuality because you can make it personal. A downside to that is that if you are one who does not take criticism well then it may not be a good idea to have a blog because I have found that blogs are very opinionated and people truly say what they think of the matter at hand. If you feel that you can’t express your opinions then blogging is a great way to do it but often people tend to get carried away and that distracts from the ultimate purpose of the blog. That doesn’t mean that you should blog about what cereal is best because not many people will read that but if you care about something enough, blogging is a good way to discuss with other people about it.

Ariana D. Period F said...

I don’t have any experience with writing blogs but I occasionally read them if a friend gives me a link to an interesting site. It seems to me that they are, as Hallie said, a good way for people who generally don’t volunteer answers in class to participate. I think it’s interesting to be able to read everyone’s input and opinions without having to try and remember what someone said in class. Also it is good for keeping up with people that you don’t see inside of school and talking about shared interests or current topics. The people I know that keep up their blog on a regular basis like it a lot and I guess I could see how it would be somewhat beneficial to the school system. I don’t think that I would ever set one up for myself; I don’t see it as a necessary thing to have, especially with Facebook and all the other social sites available now. If a teacher is on leave I guess a blog might be a good idea so that the whole class could still talk about topics that are being taught in class but really I see no other purpose for blogs when related to schoolwork.

Kat B period F said...

So after reading most of the entries my statements are repetitive. I personally have never used a blog before. I know that my friend’s blog and I know that even some of them have met great people from different countries… I have never seen a use for them myself other than another way to gossip about people without their knowing… Though, I did notice that teachers have been using them to create discussions and even debates at times. I truly do not like the “internet texting” as I call it because I would rather write a letter and send it. However, face to face conversations can be out of the question you can still imagine someone’s voice… I have nothing truly useful after this point…

I do not have my own blog but from time to time I will read fashion blogs and a few other blogs so I am familiar with the blog format and how that works. I’ve never posted a comment before but I know how to. I believe blogs are a great way to get a message out to whoever wants to read it and huge numbers of people can be reached. Many people also feel freer to write how they feel and are given a space to truly express their opinion without the pressures of conversations. It is especially nice for someone who is quieter but has a lot of ideas to share because they may find it easier to share by typing it. Blogs for classes seem like a really great idea to me because the grounds for participation are more level and I find it fun to respond to other students’ comments. I feel this gets a discussion going more easily than in class.

Cassie B. Period F said...

I do not have my own blog or read or respond to any blogs on a regular basis. I have never contributed to a blog for school or during free time, but I have read a few random blogs. I like the concept behind blogging; it allows many people who might not otherwise talk to each other to share ideas and information. It also helps collect many different opinions and viewpoints together in a way that is fairly organized and easy to access. You do not necessarily have to be outgoing or eloquent to comment on a blog, and I think that helps encourage everyone to participate. In a school environment, I think blogging can be especially useful because it allows multiple students from different classes to interact and learn from each other. That being said, it is quite easy for bloggers to post worthless comments or those with little to no facts behind them. Opinion-based blogs can still be useful or interesting to read, however.

Sarah C period f said...

I don’t have much blogging experience aside from a few times in school. Outside school, the only times I read blogs are when I happen to land on one while I’m researching something on the computer. I think they are not very helpful when looking for factual information. But they can be a good way for people to share their experiences and opinions for those interested. If your intended audience is spread out throughout the country, a blog would be very helpful, letting everyone contribute and share their thoughts. As for school curriculum, in a regular classroom setting I think that a blog would not really add much to the experience because it would be easy and more meaningful to have a discussion in person. However, in some learning environments that have a broader range, like a whole department in a university or a school with a study abroad program, I think that blogs could be a good way to communicate.

Austin A. period F said...

I have never posted to a blog nor have I read one. I don’t think that a blog is something worth using for any research at all, unless a more reliable source is posted. If someone were to trust a blog for stable or reliable information, they would essentially be asking someone off the street if the know about this subject, many people do not know what they are talking about but still would voice their opinion and say it is fact. The only use I think is good for a blog is getting an opinion. I think that blogs would be good for schools, if they were about something like teaching methods. But I think they would benefit teachers the most.

Ryan W. Period F said...

I’m not too thrilled about this blog because you can't do the main purpose of a blog. It is communicating with people that live far away. Another reason why I don’t like it is I’m a extremely slow typer. I’ve done one blog before and I liked doing it but I have a gut feeling I won’t like this one.

I have never before used nor read a blog in my life. I have heard about people blogging for a job and getting paid big bucks for it but other than that I don’t know much about it. I however do not feel that blogs are a reliable source of information because anyone who wants to can post something to a blog so there in no reference or reliability.

Blogging is an interesting concept. I haven't spent much time on a blog myself, only in my mass media class we semi-regularly post to a blog and in peace studies we had some stupid blog to post attachments too. I guess they are helpful for bringing classrooms together but in general it's just not a good idea. Becuase of E-raging nice people can and will leave the most cruel comments. Becuase they can hide behind their computer screen they feel safe to say awful things that will make everyone upset or mad. For example i saw a video on youtube of a sixteen yearold boy that had a desiese that makes him age fast and was to die very soon. He was ranting on about all his friends using "ghetto" slang. He was brave and he had the courage to show himself to the world not caring what they thoguht and expressed himself like anyone else. I read the comments and people were saying things like "whatever is killing you i hope it's slow and painful" and other things i wont repeat on any blog, it's innapropriate and just wrong. Those people don't feel that way they just feel "cool" shutting someone down like that. Again i guess that it is safe in a school enviroment to blog like thi because no ones gonna be a hater on some page where their teacher is watching. But i feel like on every forum blog or anything you can comment on over the internet. If possible to be anonymous, people love to say things that they could never muster to say in real life, they want to be the villian. I try to be myself everywhere i can but of course i slip to be honest it was just this weekend where i told some crazy justin beiber fan off for going insane about im in some stupid video. But the power of the internet is so easily manipulated and i'm aware of that and i try to make the right, concious decisions when interacting socially. It should be fun in this circumstance to test blogging the way it was supossed to be and not filled with endless pointless arguing about mostly irrealevent topics.

I have quite limited experience with blogs and blogging however this year I had an introduction to this process of blogging. In my Citizenship Education class we started a class blog, but we didn’t use it very often. I think in the beginning it was a useful tool for the curriculum because it allowed everyone to contribute even the people who were shy with sharing their thoughts and opinions. However we stopped using the blog when it became a bit of a hassle to use because the server was often not working correctly. I think blogs in general are helpful in incorporating a lot of people’s thoughts and opinions into a discussion because typing your thoughts can be less intimidating then speaking them. This could also be negative because people are not learning to speak their thoughts, which is a necessary tool that needs to be used in college and/or jobs. I think blogging would be best used as a classroom tool, along with verbal discussions, that way the importance of verbal expression isn’t lost.

I have always read blogs on certain websites, but I really don’t contribute to them. I think blogs in one way can be useful, but in another way just pointless. I think that if someone gets in the habit of blogging too much, the wont know how to talk to people in person. If your blogging about something in school or about something you need information on, then you should blog. If your blogging about personal issues though, then blogging can be bad. And if the issue you’re talking about is very personal, blogging will just make things ten times worse!

Throughout the course of my average day I don’t blog, or read blogs. I have contributed for a blog in my economics class, which was about various things. I do not have my own blog. It also gives people time to organize their answer, and think about what they are writing. I will occasionally read forums reviewing video games or sports equipment.

I have had quite a bit of past experience with blogging. Blogging is now very common in a lot of school courses. A few of my English credit classes used a class blog for discussion. I am a gear head and gear heads do a lot of thinking and comparing when it comes to working on machines. I am part of a forum on the web site: www.redquads.com and I do a lot of discussion there that is similar to blogging. Someone will start a post most likely asking a question and then the reader will respond to try and help answer his/her question. This web site that I blog regularly talks mainly about ATV’s and fixing them. But there are forums like this for any type of motorsport. Marine, Cars, Trucks, etc.

I have never posted anything to a blog or read a blog before. Several members of my family read blogs or have there own though. I personally have never been inclined to blog. I think it’s a waste of my time. It is a good way I guess for people to share ideas. From what I have heard there are some interesting blogs out there, but most of it sounds really pointless.

I have very little experience with using blogs. I have used them only twice, in Citizenship Education class last semester. I have never read a blog. But blogs seem like a good way to express your opinions and to hear others. The downside to blogging is that most of the people on there have no idea what they are talking about.

I rarely use blogs. I think that they are pointless. That's all people want to do now is blog about things. That is where you will find most people, near a computer, because that is where most people spend there time now a days. I admit that i am always using a computer but i like to get out and do things too. So i dont really like to blog. I might blog on myspace occasionally. But again that is very rarely. I think people should spend more time doing more important things then blogging. People should be spending more time with their families. But that is my opinion.

I have never had any experience with blogging. It's never been something that I've been asked to do for a class, or that I've felt the urge to do at some other time. I do think that there are circumstances where blogs could be helpful, they are certainly fairly easy to use, and a useful way to get ideas across to others in class or out in the world. They don't strike me as being essential to learning and having discussions though, because so much of having class discussions, or even discussions with anyone for that matter, is being face to face.

Blogging is very new to me. The only experience I have ever had blogging is last semester in Citizenship Education when we used Moodle to blog about our opinions of a certain controversial issue. I thought that it was an easier way for the whole class to bring forth their opinions than with an in-class discussion. It is a little less intimidating to type out your thoughts because it gives you the opportunity to think about what you want to express. I was really surprised at the intelligent responses written by some of my classmates. During a class discussion, not everyone is willing to speak their mind so you never really hear their opinions. In other words, I think blogging is a very good way to get an entire class to participate in a discussion. When I think of blogging, I am reminded of a very entertaining movie I saw recently called “Julie and Julia” about a woman who decided to cook through the entire contents of Julia Child’s cook book and blogging about it each day. That blog helped her to become successful later on. I don’t think that there isn’t anything wrong with blogging. It can be used when verbal communication is difficult and it can broadcast your views, opinions and talents to a wide variety of people.
